The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is literally the newest smartphone in town. Which does mean in the coming days and weeks, it will be arriving in mailboxes throughout the world or being picked up in stores. If you are in the US then you do have your pick of the carriers when it comes to the Galaxy Note 7 with all the major players carrying the device and seemingly keen for you to shop with them.
Verizon is one of those carriers and they announced very early on that pre-orders for their Galaxy Note 7 would commence from August 3, with an expected delivery date of August 19 – the same date you can also pick the Galaxy Note 7 up in Verizon stores. This also seems to be a date which is on target as reports already did come through days ago noting that Verizon pre-orders were being fulfilled and shipped out. As such, those who had pre-ordered through Verizon will be receiving their handsets imminently, if they have not already.
That said, if you do plan to head to Verizon store tomorrow and pick one up (or are expecting your delivery to arrive), it looks like you will have an update ready to install from the first day. Verizon has announced an update rolling out to the Galaxy Note 7 and while this is not a particularly significant update, it is one which brings with the it the latest security patches and fixes. Therefore, while not practically useful, it will be a welcomed update. According to the details, the update will arrive with software number MMB29M.N930VVRS1APH1 and does not list any additional content, besides the Android security patches.
With Verizon looking to push out an update before the device even hits store shelves and mailboxes, it does look promising for the Galaxy Note 7 in terms of future updates. That is, providing Samsung and the carriers including Verizon, do maintain the same frequency for future updates, be they security or otherwise. Either way, if you are expecting a Galaxy Note 7 to arrive from Verizon in the next couple of days or heading out to the store to get one, make sure to apply the update as soon as the device is up and running.
