T-Mobile announced a few weeks ago that they were dropping roaming fees for everyone traveling to Rio for the Summer Olympics which are currently underway in the city. Now, T-Mobile is taking it a step further for the Paralympic Games which are also taking place in Rio. The Paralympic Games take place from September 7th through the 18th. So everyone that is in town for the Paralympic Games next month will get free unlimited high-speed data as well as free calling. Not bad at all.
However, that’s not all that T-Mobile had to announce today. They are also giving families of the Paralympic Athletes a free Galaxy S7 Edge and a Gear 360 so that they can take in the experience of being in Rio for the Paralympic Games. With the Gear 360, they’ll be able to record video in 360-degrees and those that watch it can really feel like they are there. This is similar to what Samsung did with the Summer Games, where they gave all the athletes a specialized Galaxy S7 Edge. Remember that Samsung is an official sponsor of the Olympics, so this shouldn’t be a huge surprise.
In the press release that T-Mobile issued today, announcing the news, John Legere (T-Mobile’s CEO and president) stated that they are “proud to support America’s finest in Rio and make it easier than ever for their families to share every moment of their experience! These athletes have trained hard and we want their families to stream, snap and share this historic experience without worrying about coming home to a ridiculous wireless phone bill.” Speaking of ridiculous wireless phone bills, an athlete that is competing in the Olympics has already gotten a huge bill for his roaming in Rio – which he says was from playing Pokemon GO while he was there. That’s something that is likely to happen to many athletes when they return home from the games, unless of course they use T-Mobile.
The 2016 Olympic Games have been underway for nearly a week already, and multiple records have been set already, with plenty more to come. This is likely going to be the case with the Paralympics next month as well.
