The Honor 8 has just been announced for the US market, and it is the company’s second smartphone targeting the US. After announcing the Honor 5X earlier this year. The Honor 8 is a fairly high-end smartphone, sporting their own HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. However, what really makes the Honor 8 stand out is the fact that it sports a somewhat small, 5.2-inch display. It’s a bit surprising given the fact that most smartphones today sport a 5.5-inch or larger display.
We got our hands on the Honor 8 already, and now it’s time to unbox the new device. To be quite honest, the unboxing experience was a bit different than most other smartphones. As you’ll notice by watching the video down below, the phone actually sits in the box sideways, instead of just laying on top. Once you slide out the inside of the box, there are also compartments for the paperwork and SIM ejection tool, and another for the wall adapter and USB cable. Honor has included a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable here, so it will work with your existing chargers, however, it’s important to remember that the Honor 8’s fast charging will only work with the included charger.
As you can tell, this is the Sapphire Blue color Honor 8 here, and it looks really nice. It does have a glass front and back, which is pretty popular these days, actually, for premium smartphones. Honor says that they designed the Honor 8 specifically for millennials. As they found that millennials like smartphones that stand out, and the Honor 8 does definitely stand out. The Honor 8 is running Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Huawei’s Emotion UI v4.1 on board. The company has said that they will be pushing out Android 7.0 Nougat as well as the monthly security patches to the device when available. However there was no word on when exactly Nougat would be ready.
The Honor 8 is going up for pre-order tomorrow here in the US. It’ll be available at Amazon, B&H Photo, Best Buy, and their website – HiHonor.com. It’s also worth noting that it will only be available online and not in stores like Best Buy. This is due to the fact that Honor is an online-only or e-commerce brand.
