The Xiaomi Redmi 3 and Redmi Note 3 smartphones were introduced back in January this year. These two devices are amongst the best selling Xiaomi-branded smartphones in 2016, and their successors have been leaking out like crazy in the last couple of weeks. The Redmi 4 and Redmi Note 4 were certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC) quite recently, and Xiaomi was expected to introduce both of these phones today, August 25th. Well, the company did just introduce the Redmi Note 4, but there was no mention of the Redmi 4, read on.
During the company’s press event in China, Xiaomi has introduced the long-awaited Redmi Note 4 handset. As expected, this device sports an all-metal build, and resembles its predecessor quite a bit. The Redmi Note 4 sports a fingerprint scanner on the back, while you’ll notice that the dual-LED, dual tone flash and the rear-facing camera sensor are located above it. This phone, just like its predecessor, sports three capacitive buttons up front, menu, home and back keys, respectively. Both the power / lock and volume rocker physical keys are placed on the right-hand side of the Redmi Note 4, and the phone’s antenna lines are also quite visible on the back of this device.
The Redmi Note 4 features a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display with a 2.5D curved glass on top of it. The device packs in a 4,100mAh non-removable battery, and it also comes with two SIM card slots, one of which you can use to expand the phone’s internal storage up to 128GB via a microSD card. Speaking of storage, the Redmi Note 4 comes in both 16GB (+2GB of RAM) and 64GB (+3GB of RAM) storage flavors. This device is fueled by MediaTek’s Helio X20 64-bit deca-core processor running at 2.1GHz, while the company’s MIUI 8 OS is also a part of the package. The 13-megapixel camera (f/2.0 aperture, PDAF) is placed on the back of this device, and as you can see there are two sets of speaker grills down below, though we’re still not sure if both of those house speakers, or just one of them.
The 16GB storage variant of the Redmi Note 4 costs 899 Yuan ($135), while the 64GB storage model is priced at 1,199 Yuan ($180) in China. The device will be available in Silver, Gold and Dark Gray color variants. Both of these Redmi Note 4 storage variants will go on sale in China starting August 26th, and will be available from Mi.com, Mi Home stores and consumers will also be able to purchase the device from China Mobile (both online and offline channels), one of China’s largest carriers.
