Over the last few weeks it had been rumored that Amazon was set to introduce a couple of new hardware products, namely updated versions of its popular Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. While the former has yet to be announced, the latter now has, as Amazon today announced and introduced the ‘all-new Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote’.
As the name suggests, the big selling point with this particular model is the updated remote control which will allow Fire TV Stick owners to make full use of Amazon’s powerful Alexa voice features, such as universal search across a number of apps and various ‘Alexa skills’. Overall, you would be forgiven for assuming the Fire TV Stick has not changed that much compared to last year’s version as it does essentially look the same. However, it does come with some notable improvements inside, like for instance the processor which has been updated from the previous dual-core Broadcom Capri processor to a new quad-core processor. Although the RAM (1GB) and internal storage (8GB) remain the same as last year’s model.
Of course, one of the biggest benefits of the Fire TV Stick is that this is a unit which offers a full interface without the need for any additional hardware or apps and when coupled with a Prime membership becomes an even more powerful option, and at an affordable price. Speaking of which, Amazon has now confirmed that the new Amazon Fire TV Stick will only cost $39.99. Which when you consider that this is a fully fledged TV device and a remote control, $39.99 makes this a very competitively-priced product. To sweeten the deal even more, Amazon has also confirmed that those who pick up and activate a new Fire TV Stick by October 31, will get a “free content package” which is said to be worth $65. According to the details, the content bundle includes one month of Sling TV for free, two months of Hulu for free and $10 to spend on Amazon Video content. At the moment the Fire TV Stick is only available to pre-order, although Amazon expects to start shipping to buyers from October 20.
