Google has reportedly stated that Android 7.0 Nougat will be on its way to the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9 LTE model soon, said to be pushed out to both of those devices “in the coming weeks.” While this doesn’t give an exact date to look forward to, it does at least give a time frame for when the updates will be sent out to devices. Having said that, it’s also important to note that this time frame is for when Google will push out the software updates to these two devices over-the-air, in addition to when the OTA images and factory images will be available for users to flash and install on their own manually.
While there is still no way to download and install the Android 7.0 Nougat software officially from Google on either device, the software is at least coming, something that can’t be said for some devices, like the Sony Xperia Z3, which Sony has stated will not be receiving an official update to Android 7.0 Nougat. The next few weeks would put the software updates around the beginning of October, and this is likely to be for the Nexus 6 for any of the U.S. carriers. This vague statement from Google on the updates follows a rumor which mentioned a possible Nougat software update push from Verizon to the Nexus 6 on September 12th, which would have been Monday.
Now two days later, Verizon’s Nexus 6 models have yet to receive the update, and with no confirmation on an exact date for the OTA from Google officially, it’s possible that Verizon’s model could get the OTA around the same time as when Google pushes the OTA, or it could take a little bit longer. In regards to Google’s official push of the software to the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 LTE, there is no word from Google on the delay, but chances are that there is a reason for holding the software back, and because of this Google is essentially asking users to be patient just a little bit longer. While users will no doubt want to get their hands on the software as soon as they possibly can, they might be able to find some peace of mind in the fact that this extra time will likely make it a more smooth user experience.
