In the grand scheme of things, BlackBerry and Samsung have always been rival companies as they both do compete in the mobile world. Although, that rivalry has increased lately as a result of BlackBerry finally releasing Android smartphones. This now means that they both compete within the Android market as well as the wider smartphone market. Not to mention, with Samsung making a push lately for a more enhanced security service with the likes of Samsung KNOX, it could be argued they are somewhat competitors in that field now too.
Either way, a report coming of Reuters today seems to be confirming that the two companies have joined forces for one particularly venture, as according to the details the two companies have teamed up to ultra-secure a tablet. But this is not any old tablet and it is very unlikely to be one you will ever be able to purchase. Instead, this is a tablet said to be used by German government agencies and therefore, one which needed its security beefing up.
The tablet is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 and this is already being referred to as ‘a spy-proof tablet’ and one which came with a number of security features including Samsung’s own security solution, Samsung KNOX. However, according to the new report, BlackBerry confirmed today that their services were called upon to further increase the security on offer by making use of BlackBerry’s encryption technology. Again, according to the details, the tablet is said to come with “a security card and encryption”, as well as certification software which has been developed by BlackBerry Secusmart. Which is said to be a technology which can lock any data either stored on or transferred from the tablet.
Needless to say, with both companies touting their various security solutions and benefits, it stands to reason that employing both of the company’s security features is a good way to not only ensure that sensitive tablets are secure, but that they are just about as secure as they possible can be. While BlackBerry has reportedly confirmed their involvement in this particular venture, no further details were provided on the specifics of the deal.
