Samsung is reportedly rebranding its Galaxy Tab S2 tablets for 2016 to help people distinguish the difference between these new models and the ones that were launched last year. The new tablets will simply have “2016” added into the model name of the devices, but will also come powered by a brand new processor and graphics processor to complete the refresh. There will be a rebranded and refreshed model for both the 8-inch and 9.7-inch models of the device, as well as both Wi-Fi and the 4G models so if you have been considering getting a new tablet and were thinking about the Galaxy Tab S2, you’ll be able to pick any of the ones that were already available with the newer hardware.
Samsung has outfitted the 2016 models of the Galaxy Tab S2 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652, which is an octa-core processor and is paired with an Adreno 510 GPU for the graphics processing. In addition to the this new setup, the LTE models of the 2016 tablets also feature the X8 LTE modem inside. Just as a recap, the tablets also come with 3GB of RAM, and all support expandable storage up to 128GB via a microSD card slot. They also feature 8-inch and 9.7-inch displays respectively, with Samsung’s Super AMOLED panel technology onboard. Users will also find an 8MP rear camera as well as a 2.1MP front camera, and on the inside keeping the tablet going are reported battery life of 12 hours for the 9.7-inch model as well as 14 hours for the 8-inch model.
The tablets also run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box which was initially announced when these tablets launched earlier this year. This is a little bit different than Samsung original Galaxy Tab S2 models from 2015 which were launched with Android Lollipop, although he T-Mobile model of the 2015 Galaxy Tab S2 was just recently updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow earlier this month, while at the end of last month the 9.7-inch Wi-Fi model was treated to support for CyanogenMod 13 nightlies which is based on Android Marshmallow software. Samsung is likely to show off the 2016 tablets at IFA coming up in September.
