With Android 7.0 Nougat is now rolling out for a handful of Google devices and source code for this latest version has been already uploaded, we have now started receiving custom ROMs for many popular devices. Users have already been treated to an AOSP version of Android Nougat for the Nexus 5, OnePlus One, Nexus 7 (2013), Moto G, Android One, ZTE Axon 7 to name a few. And now one more device is set to join this party. One enterprising developer has managed to get Android Nougat based CyanogenMod 14 running on a seven-year-old HTC HD2 device.
XDA developer named macs18max has successfully booted unofficial CyanogenMod 14 build on the seven-year-old HTC HD2 device. The developer has posted several images of HTC HD2 running CyanogenMod 14 ROM – as you can see in the images below this post. But don’t hold your breath as the device is not quite capable of handling Android Nougat with ease – considering its seven year old hardware, it shouldn’t be a surprise. According to reports, only audio and WiFi is working fine while the display, and other things are having some issues or not working at all. In case you wer wondering, the HTC HD2 was launched back in 2009 with Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional OS pre-loaded, but thanks to the open source nature of Android and developers’ efforts, it has enjoyed many custom Android ROMs despite being born a Windows device. Though the developer was able to load Android Nougat on this age old HTC HD2, the ROM is not yet available to all users. The developer of this ROM notes that there is no need to get excited about this ROM as the HTC HD2 simply doesn’t have enough RAM to be able to fully support Android Nougat. Specifications wise, the HTC HD2 has 4.3-inch WVGA screen, it’s powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 1.0 GHz single-core CPU and an Adreno 200 GPU accompanied by 448 MB of RAM and 512 MB of internal storage.
Unfortunately, the ROM is still under testing and not yet available for download as of now. We will update you once this ROM is made available for download for users. But in the meantime, you can also try out Android Marshmallow based CyanogenMod 13 ROM for the HTC HD2, in case you haven’t already.
