The latest Google+ version is beginning to roll out to users, bumping up from v8.6 to v8.7, and bringing along a group of small yet nifty and ultimately useful changes for those that engage with the social app often, as you can now save images that are posted in the comments section, among other things. In the last Google+ update, which was v8.6 and pushed out to users around August 31st, Google finally opened up the comments to image posts, something which is a feature that had been implemented by other services like Facebook for quite some time. Today’s update enhances this particular aspect by adding in additional ways to interact with these images.
The first and likely most useful is the capability mentioned above. Users can now download the images that are posted in the comments section of any Google+ post. While not everyone will need to utilize this all of the time, it is something that everyone will likely end up using at least once, and having the option there just in case you come across an image you’d like to keep is nice as it’s better than not having the option at all. Alongside now being able to download these images, users can also grab more details about the image, and when tapping on an image that was left in the comments it also now opens up in a full screen view within the app.
This update also introduces the ability to zoom in on images left in comments as well, the same way you can zoom in on generally any other image that’s posted to the feed. Once you tap on an image in the comments to view it in full screen, you might also notice the appearance of a Google Cast button, and that’s because you can now cast the images posted in comments to the big screen. It’s likely that are some general bug fixes and improvements that come along with this version of the app too, but in regards to changes or new features that you can actually interact with, this appears to be it. The update for Google+ should be rolling out to users via the Play Store as of today, but if you don’t have the update yet and would prefer not to wait, you can pick up the APK for it from below.
