HTC Posts New Teaser Ahead of their September 20th Unveil

HTC is the maker of Google’s upcoming Pixel smartphones. At least that is what the rumor mill has been stating in the past few months. The rumor mill is also showing that the devices will be announced on October 4th. However, HTC is holding an unveiling on September 20th for a new smartphone. Many are thinking that it’s likely the new HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle and Desire 10 Pro that have been leaking lately. However, today’s teaser has many thinking it may be for the upcoming Pixel smartphones.

The phone that is shown in the teaser (below) looks a whole lot like the “Sailfish” smartphone that has been leaked numerous times already. But it still seems pretty unlikely that Google would allow HTC to announce their new smartphones. With the Nexus brand, those devices were always announced by Google. As they were technically Google smartphones and not HTC, LG, Samsung, Motorola, or Huawei smartphones. This is likely the smartphone that the Pixel XL is being modeled after. Typically smartphone makers grab a phone they are already selling or will sell in the future, and use it for the Nexus project (now the Pixel project?). So that would make a whole lot of sense. Either way, we’ll find out next Tuesday when HTC unveils their latest smartphone(s).

HTC is going to be holding this announcement at 8AM BST (which is 3AM EST, 12AM PST) on Tuesday, September 20th. Another reason why it’s highly unlikely to be the new Pixel smartphones from Google and HTC. Although they are using the hashtag #BeEdgier, which likely hints at the edges of their smartphone, but could also mean they are taking some chances with this new smartphone they are announcing. The HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle and Desire 10 Pro have leaked already, and appear to be pretty solid mid-range competitors. Definitely not a high-end smartphone like the Pixel and Pixel XL would be.

Where Google is mixing things up a bit this year, it is possible that HTC could announce Pixel and Pixel XL at their event next week. However, given the time of the day that the event is taking place, it seems very unlikely.
