Solid Explorer, one of the best file browsing apps for Android devices just received a new major update which brings its version up to 2.2 and introduces a plethora of new features. Among other things, the new app version comes packed with support for Android 7.0 Nougat multi-window mode and a strong file encryption option which utilizes the practically uncrackable AES-256 bit algorithm. Once encrypted, you can access your files with either a password or a fingerprint thanks to the newly added support for fingerprint readers. This new Solid Explorer feature also works when accessing files that aren’t stored locally, i.e. it’s fully integrated with pretty much every popular cloud storage solution out there. Note that you may have to navigate to the app’s options and activate the “Use fingerprint” option before you can enjoy this convenient method of authorization.
Other than that, the 2.2 update also introduces a reset timer for master passwords, an improved UI theme that changes depending on what time of the day it is, and a bunch of smaller performance tweaks which make the app’s image viewer run more smoothly. Naturally, the update also comes packed with some bug fixes. While most of them are minor, the fixed support for .tgz files is definitely a notable one.
Solid explorer has a free trial period during which you can enjoy all of its premium features for two weeks. After that, you can unlock the full version for a one-time fee of $1.99 which makes this app one of the more affordable file browsing solutions on the Play Store, provided you find your device’s stock explorer too limited.
Update 2.2 for Solid Explorer is already available for download from the Play Store worldwide. Of course, if you happen to be a Solid Explorer beta tester, you’ve already been enjoying all of the aforementioned features for quite a while now and the only thing that the latest update for that version of the app brings is some minor bug fixes and optimization tweaks.
