Introduction
Do we have a good one for you tonight – the comparison of last year’s LG V10 goes up against the new LG V20. I know that some consumers were wild about the angular stainless steel body and silicone backing of the LG V10. The new LG V20 uses a new lightweight aluminum that’s used on aircrafts for its shell and silicone ‘bumpers’ if you will at the top and bottom to protect it if dropped. LG took a good thing with the LG V10 and bumped it up with the new LG V20. Let’s take a look to see just what these two devices have in common and then we will take a closer look at each individual device.
The LG V10 and LG V20 are almost identical in height and width – but the LG V20 is 1.0mm thinner and 18 grams lighter. They both use a 5.7 –inch IPS LCD QHD primary display and a 160 x 1040 secondary display, although the LG V20’s is much brighter. They both use a Snapdragon processor, but different models – same with the Adreno GPU. They both use 4GB of RAM and offer 32GB/64GB of expandable internal memory. The camera area changed up from last year, but their primary camera is a 16MP, and their front-facing cameras (FFC) are both 5MP – the V20 adds another 8MP camera much like the LG G5. They both have enhanced audio; however, the V20 improves it another step. They both have a fingerprint sensor to unlock the device or to authorize mobile payments. Both devices have a removable battery with fast charging capabilities. They have the usual suspects – WiFi, Bluetooth (v4.1 on the V10 and v4.2 on the V20), GPS, NFC, an IR Blaster, and a USB port for charging and data transfer – microUSB on the V10 and the newer Type-C reversible connector on the V20.

LG V10
The LG V10, introduced back in October 2015 is sculpted from stainless steel with a silicone backing. It includes a secondary display and two 5MP FFCs and a small, independent display sitting above the 5.7-inch main display, which can operate when the main display is off – it is like the new always-on technology and helps save battery life. Let’s take a closer look at the LG V10 and see just how it stacks up against the new LG V20.
The LG V10, like its replacement, sports two displays – there is a primary IPS Quantum QHD display measuring 5.7-inches with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and 515 pixels-per-inch (PPI) and above the main screen, near the top of the device, is a 1040 x 160-pixel display that is also 515 PPI. The secondary display is functional even when the main display is off. It is there to show notifications, the weather, the time/date, app shortcuts and more – all in the name of saving battery life. The LG V10 uses a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexacore processor with four cores running at 1.44GHz and two cores running at 1.8GHz. The LG V10 packs 4GB of DDR3 RAM (due to processor limitations) and 64GB of internal storage with room to expand an additional 2TB.
The primary camera on the LG V10 uses a 16MP sensor, adds laser autofocus, a large f/1.8 aperture, OIS and a LED flash. Then, LG decided to use dual 5MP FFCs to add a wider field and more depth to the traditional selfie or video chat. The LG V10 packs a 3000mAh removable battery that should last throughout an entire day. Quick Charge 2.0 is available to give you up to 50-percent battery life with a 40-minute charge.
The LG V10 has a speaker on the bottom of the device and includes Hi-Fi circuitry for improved sound through the headphones. The V10 measures 159.6 x 79.3 x 8.6 mm and weighs in at 192 grams. The available colors are Space Black, Luxe White, Modern Beige, Ocean Blue and Opal Blue. It is available on Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, priced at approximately $670, and is now running Marshmallow.
LG V20
The new LG V20 comes to us about a year after its predecessor. The V20 uses a slightly different design and metal – stainless to aluminum – to achieve its good looks. The silicone was moved to the top and bottom of the device for added safety if dropped. The V20 kept the same sized 5.7-inch display and smaller secondary display over the top. Of course, the internal specs were stepped up this model. The LG V20 is aimed at those interested in photography and sound. Will these improvements be enough? Will the LG V20 be worth its price and beat out the LG V10?
The LG V20, like the LG V10, sports two displays – the main IPS Quantum QHD display measures 5.7-inches with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and 513 PPI. The LG V20 uses the best processor out there and the same one found in other flagship devices – a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor with dual cores running at 1.6GHz and dual cores running at 2.15GHz. The LG V20 packs 4GB of faster DDR4 RAM and 64GB of faster UFS 2.0 internal storage with room to expand an additional 2TB.
The camera on the LG V20 uses a dual sensor affair – the main16MP sensor is still there, but they add another 8MP wide-angle lens for those times when you need a wider view. LG added laser and phase detection (PDAF) autofocus, a large f/1.8 aperture (f/2.4 for the 8MP), OIS and a dual-tone LED flash. Then, LG decided to go back to the single 5MP FFC with a f/1.9 aperture for selfies or video chatting. The LG V20 packs a 3200mAh removable battery that should last through the day, and Quick Charge 3.0 makes charging faster.
The LG V20 has a speaker on the bottom of the device and one in the earpiece. It includes four DACs to improved sound as well as providing an EQ with left/right balance controls. The V20 measures 159.7 x 78.1 x 7.6 mm and weighs in at 174 grams. The LG V20 is available in the colors Titan, Silver, and Pink.

We knew from the start that the LG V20 would be the winner of this comparison – it was done so you could see the differences/improvements LG has made in designing the LG V20.
The V20 has a brighter secondary display, a much better processor and Adreno 530 GPU for demanding graphics. Faster RAM and memory, larger battery, better audio, much more exciting camera area, and more rapid charging. The LG V20 is also running Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box.
