Chinese smartphone vendor, Meizu, is expected to launch its all-new flagship on September 13th, but the company is now being rumored to unveil its next-generation Android-based OS on the same day. According to reports coming out of China, Meizu might very well introduce its upcoming flagship smartphone, the PRO 7, and its sixth-generation custom ROM, Flyme 6, on the same day, but there’s a good chance that the new ROM won’t come pre-installed on the PRO 7 out of the box. While there’s no confirmation of this rumor at this point in time, the company actually did something similar last year when it announced the Flyme 5 and the Meizu PRO 5 at the same event, but the device actually came with Flyme 4 pre-installed, it only got the Flyme 5 update several weeks later.
As mentioned already, the report is still based on rumors and hearsay, so a generous pinch of salt may well be in order for now until it’s confirmed by official sources. So while the confusion surrounding the unveiling of Flyme 6 is no closer to getting resolved, the Meizu PRO 7 is expected to be a pretty decent device if the steady stream of recent leaks are anything to go by. We have already seen a few leaked images as well as the rumored spec sheet of the upcoming smartphone. which has given us somewhat of an idea about what to expect from it once it hits the market later this month.
According to the leaked info, Meizu’s upcoming flagship is expected to come in two different versions; one with a curved display and another with a regular, flat screen. Both are said to be of the Super AMOLED variety with fullHD or 2K resolution. Another interesting thing about the phone is that it will reportedly come with Samsung’s Exynos 8890 SoC, which happens to be the chip powering the international models of the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and Note 7 handsets. The U.S. and Chinese models of the three aforementioned Samsung devices, though, are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820. Meanwhile, the upcoming Meizu PRO 7 is expected to come in 4GB and 6GB RAM variants, and rumors point at price-tags of 2799 Yuan ($420) for the former, and 3099 Yuan ($465) for the latter.
