Lenovo quietly announced the Moto E3 in July, around the same time that the Moto Z and Moto Z Force launched on Verizon. It is the third-generation of the Moto E, which has been Motorola’s (now just “Moto”) lowest-end smartphone. The Moto E and Moto G lines have done fairly well in India, primarily due to the pricing. Many smartphones that are under Rs. 20,000 in the country sell fairly well, and Lenovo is looking to capitalize on that with the Moto E3. Lenovo is holding a press conference in India on September 19th, likely to announce the Moto E3 coming to the country, which it hasn’t yet been released anywhere since being announced.
Spec-wise the Moto E3 sports fairly respectable specs. Including a 5-inch 720p display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 on board. It’s powered by a MediaTek quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. It’s being sold in two configurations. One has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, with the other featuring 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Additionally, there is a micro SD card slot that supports up to 32GB. There is an 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera on board. All powered by a 2800mAh battery as well as Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow being on board. Of course, it is running basically stock Android with a few enhancements that Moto has included.
The Moto E has always been a fairly low-end smartphone, but has sold pretty well. In the US, it has typically sold for right at $100. And for that price, the Moto E has given some pretty good value for what you’re getting here. And that is continuing with the Moto E3. While the Moto E3 is expected to be released on September 19th in India, it is also expected to come to the US a bit later on. It’ll likely arrive in the US as an unlocked smartphone, and not on a carrier like Verizon. Similar to the Moto G4, Moto G4 Play and Moto G4 Plus have done earlier this year. Making it a great unlocked smartphone to pick up and put on any GSM carrier. It likely won’t be compatible with Verizon or Sprint though.
