It’s been an interesting year for fans of Motorola, as the company moves away from their usual release schedule since the firm resurfaced with the original Moto X back in 2013. This year, they did things very differently. The Moto X appears to be done with, and the Moto Z is the new king of the hill for Moto, but the Moto G4 launched in India before it launched anywhere else, and the Moto E was conspicuously absent. Now, Motorola is fixing that with the quiet launch of the Moto E3, a continuation of the even-more budget friendly smartphone from Motorola.
Right now, Motorola is being a little tight-lipped with all the details about the Moto E3, but we know that it’s sporting a 5.0-inch HD 720p display, a quad-core CPU of some sort, Android 6.0 Marshmallow onboard as well as a 2,800 mAh battery keeping the show running. There’s currently no word on how much RAM or storage the device is packing, but we’d assume at least 1GB of RAM and at least 8GB of storage. We do know however, that there’s an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera as well as a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. This new Moto E will support 4G LTE as well as Bluetooth 4.0 and will be launching first in the UK. Heading to Amazon, Argos, O2, Tesco and other chains for just £99. That sub-£100 is a psychological price point that Motorola will no doubt be proud to be launching just under and it should do well over the Christmas period as inexpensive smartphones often do across the pond.
MicroSD card support as well as FM Radio support are also listed here for the Moto E3, but just whether or not the Moto E will feature a decent CPU is anyone’s guess right now. We should however, know more as we get closer to the official street launch which is pegged as “early September”. That £99 figure makes the Moto E3 roughly $130 or so, but that’s a straight conversion, and the official price will no doubt be a little less than that. With the launch of the Moto G4 Play in the UK as well, Motorola is starting to expand its line of Moto devices that they launched earlier this year, with the only piece of the puzzle seemingly missing right now being a new Moto 360 smartwatch.
