For the past couple of months or so the Samsung Galaxy A8 2016 edition reared its head on numerous occasions, and last time the smartphone made it in the headlines was at the end of August when the device passed through the FCC for certification. The smartphone was also spotted on a couple of benchmarking websites so the hardware specifications are not entirely unknown, but up until now there were no clues in regards to the handset’s exterior design. However, earlier today prolific leakster @OnLeaks twitted a series of high quality renders showcasing the alleged Samsung Galaxy A8 2016 design, and by the looks of it the aforementioned device could borrow a few design cues from the ongoing Samsung Galaxy S7 flagship.
Assuming that the images above and below reflect the Samsung Galaxy A8 2016 edition’s final design, it appears that the new model will gain some distance from the original Galaxy A8 design, and instead borrow several high-end design cues including a 2.5D display with rounded edges, a metal frame, and a glossy (likely glass-covered) back panel. According to the source, the Samsung Galaxy A8 2016 will have slightly larger overall dimensions compared to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, clocking in at 156.5 x 77.5 x 7.3 millimeters. In contrast, the Samsung Galaxy S7 measures 142.4 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm; the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge clocks in at 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7 mm; and the original Samsung Galaxy A8’s overall dimensions read 158 x 76.8 x 5.9 mm, so the upcoming model is not only slightly larger than the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, but also outmeasures the original Galaxy A8 released a year ago.
The photos weren’t accompanied by other details but these dimensions suggest that the upcoming model will pack a larger 5.7-inch display as opposed to a 5.1-inch panel, as leaks and rumors so far have explored both options. They also reveal that the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2016) is identified by model number “SM-A810”, and that it packs an Exynos 7420 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC, an ARM Mali-T760 MP8 or Adreno 405 GPU, and 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM. Whatever the case may be, the original Galaxy A8 was announced in July 2015 and released one month later in August, so in theory, the 2016 edition should hit the market fairly soon.
