Samsung launched its latest flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 7, over a month ago. Initially, the Galaxy Note 7 was a success in terms of sales, with the company struggling to meet the demand for the device. However, things started to go downhill for the South Korean company when reports regarding explosions of the device while being charged started to emerge from all over the world. This prompted the company to launch an investigation which came to the conclusion that there was a fault in the battery. An official recall of all affected units was then issued and all affected customers were to be given a new unit. The exchange program has now officially begun in Samsung’s home country of South Korea.
If you reside in South Korea and wish to exchange your device, all you need to do is head to your point of purchase, and get a new unit. However, if you purchased your device from carriers such as SK Telecom and KT, you will need to head to the very same store you got your device from. If you purchased one from LG Uplus, you have the option to visit any store across the country to get your new unit. Do take note that your new unit will be the same color as the one you originally purchased. Samsung is giving one week to Galaxy Note 7 owners in South Korea to get their replacement units. The program is slated to end on September 26, and sale of the device in the country will recommence two days later, on September 28. It is estimated that around 400,000 Galaxy Note 7 units were sold in South Korea since the device was first launched.
South Korea’s Galaxy Note 7 exchange program comes after Canada’s recall which began on September 12, and Singapore’s recall on September 16. If you reside in the US, the exchange program will begin this coming Wednesday which is September 21. In order to avoid confusion when differentiating the new Galaxy Note 7 from the faulty units, the battery indicator on the new devices will be green instead of white. If you own a Galaxy Note 7, do take part in the exchange program to avoid keeping a faulty unit which can potentially explode and cause bodily injuries and damage to property.
