Adding to the growing list of locations where Samsung is attempting to pull back their recently released Galaxy Note 7 devices from customers, Samsung Canada has officially announced that they are recalling the phone in the country. Samsung’s official confirmation on the recall is not completely new, as it was first mentioned earlier this month. However, more regions seem to be placing recalls alongside the U.S. and other regions. For those who have purchased the Galaxy Note 7 in Canada and are wondering whether or not their device falls under the guidelines, Samsung states that they are only recalling devices that have been purchased between August 19th, the phone’s initial release date in Canada and other countries around the globe, and September 1st.
What these dates mean is that anyone in Canada who has purchased the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 after the September 1st date should be safe and should not have to return their devices. This official recall from Samsung Canada also follows a recently announced safety advisory from Transport Canada that was issued last week on September 10th, stating that customers have to carry their phones in the cabin where any problems that could come up with the phone could be handled on the spot, as opposed to storing devices in luggage that would be stored below the cabin.
This also follows the recent announcement from Samsung here in the U.S. which urged customers to turn their devices off and return them for a replacement. Although it’s already widely known at this point, the issue with the Galaxy Note 7 is that the battery has the potential to overheat and explode, which has had the potential to cause fire damage. Samsung Canada will be providing an exchange for customers who have bought devices within this time frame, and have mentioned that to complete them customers can go to CanadaNote7exchange.expertinquiry.com. As an additional method of processing or completing the exchange process, Samsung has provided a number for people to call as well, which can be found at the announcement page. As with other exchange programs, Samsung will provide a Galaxy Note 7 replacement for any consumer who has completed the exchange once the devices are available, but in the meantime they can pick up a separate replacement device when they go to return the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung does not, however mention which device will be given for the interim replacement.
