Samsung And Mobile TeleSystems To Improve 5G Network

Samsung Electronics has been cooperating with numerous worldwide cellular operators, such as T-Mobile, to improve and test 5G networks. In addition, Samsung has now partnered with the leading telecommunication operator in Russia and the CIS – Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) -, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The target is to develop and advance new technologies concerning 5G network and the Internet of Things (IoT).

In order to enhance communications, the MoU covers technologies including Carrier Aggregation, Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technologies, LTE Broadcast (eMBMS), and Multi-path TCP (MPTCP). Also, thanks to this collaboration there will be tests and improvements on IoT technologies like NB-IoT and LTE-Machine. Samsung’s experience will help MTS upgrade its data communication speed and discover new possibilities for the usage of the ultra-fast 5G network. As a result, MTS customers will benefit from these tests by improving their lives on a daily basis. Moreover, it is important to mention that there will be room for development for new services and applications, such as IoT with the purpose of tackling challenges like data rates, spectrum bandwidth, and battery life. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a computing concept that describes a future where everyday physical objects will be connected to the Internet and be able to identify themselves to other devices. With this intelligent network infrastructure, we can improve operations, increase safety, and security. The MTS Vice President of technology Mr. Andrei Ushatskiy stated that “Commercial deployment of new technologies, including an area of IoT, will make it possible for us to occupy a new market niche in both corporate and mass market domains”. On top of that, the two companies hope that they will boost communication speed for 4G and contribute, through field tests, to improve 5G network.

The Korean company has a long-term partnership with MTS since 2013 to form LTE networks in Russian cities. Also, Samsung has been active to enhance 5G technologies, by investing in studies and experiments, since 2000. As a result of these efforts, Samsung developed the world’s first 5G channel modeling tool to decrease the time and the efforts needed for 5G network planning. We should be ready to see more crucial patents regarding 5G in 2018.
