Samsung Pay digital wallet has recently celebrated its first anniversary in the US and the South Korean tech giant decided to use that opportunity to include some new features into its increasingly popular digital payment solution. More specifically, the Samsung Pay app was recently updated with coupon support and restore function. Samsung is boasting about the fact that its mobile payment system now supports more than 500 banks and credit unions, works with hundreds of gift cards and coupons, and generally covers around four-fifths of the entire credit and debit card market in the States, which is impressive considering it has barely been on the market for a year. Not surprisingly, the company is rather pleased with the growing adoption rate of its service and is now claiming that the world without physical wallets is now “closer than ever”.
As for new features specifically, the mobile app is now capable of storing and redeeming coupons, as well as searching for new ones. This function was co-developed with Quotient Technology, the company running one of the largest promotion platforms in the country. Samsung Pay currently supports coupons from a wide range of retailers and will continue to add support for new ones in the coming months. Regarding the aforementioned restore function, it works over the cloud and basically relies on Samsung Cloud integration in order to bring back all of the company’s gift cards and memberships to any new device users might sign into. While the coupon feature won’t be useful to everyone, it certainly can’t hurt to have access to it. In a press release published earlier this week, Samsung also revealed that it’s currently working on diversifying the range of capabilities of its payment solution even further and is currently in talks with numerous entities whose services are yet to be supported.
Last but not least, Samsung Pay users now also have a chance to win something from the $100,000 prize pool which the company set up to celebrated the first anniversary of its mobile app. In order to enter the giveaway, simply write a birthday message to the service on Twitter and use the hashtags #SamsungPay and #sweepstakes. This isn’t the first time Samsung Pay is providing incentives to its users with free stuff so it’s to be expected that more giveaways will come in the future.
