Today, at IFA 2016 in Berlin, Sony introduced two new Xperia X models– the first is the Xperia XZ and the second is the Xperia X Compact. The emphasis on these new models is definitely the camera area with triple image sensing technology. Before the Canadian Sony fans get too excited, Sony has told our source there are no current plans to bring these new models into Canada – however, they did say that they would keep them “updated on future announcements about the Xperia lineup.” They left a ‘crack-in-the-door’ and maybe Canada will see these two models in the future. Smartphone makers have gone back and changed country availability on smartphones in the past.
It will be a real shame if the Xperia XZ does not make it to Canada, in particular for those that enjoy a great photo experience with their smartphone. Sony says the improved 23MP shooter will give the best photos yet from an Xperia device. Sony has included three image sensors and is calling it their triple image sensor technology. The camera can be ready to take a picture in .06 seconds with their dedicated shutter release button. With the rise in popularity of the video, Sony’s SteadyShot now has 5-axis stabilization for smoother 4K videos. Sony also included a large, 13MP front-facing camera (FFC) with a 22mm/90-degree wide angle lens for excellent selfies and video chatting.
Sony continued with its metal body that is available in the classic Black and Platinum, but also in a new Forest Blue – a color that is certainly popular on the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Once you get past the camera area, the rest of the Xperia XZ is your basic 2016 flagship. It sports a 5.2-inch LCD FHD display, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, with the Adreno 530 GPU for outstanding graphics, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage. A 2800mAh battery powers the Xperia XZ and the power button doubles as the fingerprint sensor. It will be running Android Marshmallow and should be available in early October – we will keep you informed if there is any change in either the Xperia XZ or the Xperia X Compact making their way to Canada.
