It seems in some respects, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is now returning to store shelves in the US. If you already own one of the recalled Galaxy Note 7 smartphones then Verizon, Sprint and AT&T all have confirmed that they now have new and safe stock and are ready to swap out your recalled handset for a new one. In fact, it seems if you have yet to buy one and are planning to, Verizon and Sprint are already selling them.
Of course, if you do get one of the new Galaxy Note 7s, it is important to know (and be able to show others) that you do have a good and therefore safe Galaxy Note 7 and to try and help this issue, Samsung has been rolling out a few changes with these newer and safe models. Namely, a distinction on the packaging which is a clear indicator that this is fresh and safe stock, as well as a software tweak which changes the battery indicator icon from white (on the older models) to green (on the newer ones). Of course, that does mean that if you have a carrier-branded Galaxy Note 7 you will have to wait until the software updates comes through from the carriers.
Although, you do not have to wait that long it would seem. Yesterday saw Verizon confirming that they were in the process of rolling out the update which turns their safe Galaxy Note 7 battery indicator icons from white to green. Today, the same can be said for both T-Mobile and AT&T as both carriers have announced an update which is en route to their devices. It is worth pointing out that this update is rolling out to all Galaxy Note 7 smartphones regardless of whether it is a recalled one or a safe one. The reason being is that the update also includes a warning for the recalled models – so after updating the device will tell you that this is not a safe handset and that it should be returned.
