T-Mobile is one that doesn’t necessarily wait for the official quarterly numbers to tout how great of a quarter they have had. In fact, Q3 2016 doesn’t officially end until September 30th, yet T-Mobile is already touting how many customers they’ve picked up from competitors this quarter. The company did note that these numbers are through the first half of September (meaning July 1st through September 15th). According to T-Mobile, Verizon has “donated” over 250,000 customers in the quarter. Sprint sits at 300,000 and AT&T has given them nearly 400,000 customers.
The carrier’s CEO and President, John Legere, stated that their “Q3 results so far have surpassed Q2 in postpaid and prepaid nets, and we are adding customers from ALL of the other guys at an increasing rate.” Legere also noted that “all three wireless carriers have tried to match Un-carrier signature moves this quarter, like getting rid of overages and introducing unlimited data plans, but as usual, they came up short.” Some of T-Mobile’s recent Un-carrier moves includes T-Mobile One, where customers can get unlimited data for just $70 per month. There are some caveats there, and if you want completely unlimited data, you’ll need to pay an extra $25/month. Seems a bit pricey, but that is unlimited data, something that only Sprint and AT&T still offer – and AT&T charges you $100 plus you need to subscribe to DIRECTV or U-verse. Not to mention T-Mobile Tuesdays has been a huge hit for the company. Not only has it put them in the news, and gotten millions of impressions across social media, but it makes customers happy. Getting free stuff each week just for being a T-Mobile customer.
In their press release touting their Q3 numbers, T-Mobile also talked about their LTE network. Stating that they now cover nearly 312 million Americans, and “now has near parity with the once dominant Verizon coverage.” The Magenta carrier also touts that they have the densest, highest-capacity LTE network in the US. T-Mobile has also rolled a number of network technology advancements. Some of these include VoLTE, 4×4 MIMO, HD Voice Services, WiFi Calling and much more.
T-Mobile has been on a tear since John Legere was installed as CEO of the then, fourth largest carrier in the US, in 2012. Since then, he has turned the ship around and more than doubled their customer base – a big part of that was due to the MetroPCS purchase – and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon with his team in Bellevue.
