A recent listing on the official GFXBench benchmark page revealed the likely specs of the upcoming third iteration of the Samsung Galaxy A3 smartphone. As expected, the 2017 model will be a mid-range smartphone with respectable hardware aimed at people with moderately high expectations who aren’t looking to pay a lot of money for their latest pocket companion.
More specifically, the third generation of the Samsung Galaxy A3 apparently boasts a 4.7-inch display featuring a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels, a 1.5GHz octa-core CPU, and the ARM Mali-T830 GPU which are likely going to make up the Exynos 7870 system-on-chip. In addition to that, it has 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and a solid 12-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, face detection, flash, and the ability to record full HD video. The latter feature is also supported by the devices 7-megapixel front camera. The device was benchmarked while running the so-called Samsung Edition of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. In addition to that, the smartphone supports a single SIM card while the GFXBench listing makes no mention of an SD card slot. The upcoming third generation of the Samsung Galaxy A3 has also been heavily rumored to support fingerprint recognition but there’s nothing in this listing to confirm that.
It’s worth noting that the GFXBench test was in all likelihood conducted on a prototype of the third-gen Galaxy A3, but that doesn’t mean this information isn’t credible or legitimate. In fact, the very same benchmarking site was pretty much spot-on when it came to revealing the specs of the last year’s model so while not official, this listing should still be considered as a legitimate pointer as to where Samsung’s mid-range lineup is heading to next year. In other words, in comparison to the second-generation A3, the upcoming model will apparently have 0.5GB of extra RAM, a better SoC, the exact same display, and—for some reason—half of the last year model’s internal storage. All-in-all, it doesn’t seem too shabby for a mid-range device that is likely going to be priced below the $300 mark. Samsung will likely officially announce the next Galaxy A3 by the end of the year.
