Top 10: Android News Stories, 09/04/16

While there is still an exciting day ahead this week with the upcoming announcement for the LG V20, this past week included the reveals of some really interesting stuff as IFA kicked off on Friday, and announcements for new devices happened the couple of days before. Companies like ASUS got an early start with the announcement of their ZenWatch 3, their third smartwatch and their third iteration of an Android Wear device. Of course, ASUS was not alone in the smartwatch department as Samsung later on Wednesday morning officially unveiled the Gear S3, which is not their third smartwatch, it’s actually their 7th, but it is their third iteration of the Gear S line.

When it comes to phones, there were quite a few that were actually announced as part of the pre-IFA events. Sony showed off two new devices as part of the Xperia X family, which include the Xperia XZ and the Xperia X Compact, giving them another high-end Xperia X model and a new compact device that is designed for those who prefer a smaller screen size. HTC also announced a new phone this past week with the One A9S, and Lenovo unveiled the Moto Z Play for the U.S., which will come in an unlocked model following the Verizon exclusive DROID Edition that launches first. Also in regards to phones, Samsung confirmed that they would be recalling all Galaxy Note 7 devices sold in the U.S., and Google confirmed that Project Ara has been suspended. All of those announcements just before IFA were some of the most exciting details this past week, but perhaps the most exciting didn’t have to do with IFA at all, as it’s now been rumored that the upcoming Nexus devices will now be called the Pixel and the Pixel XL, and they’re rumored to be launching on October 4th alongside a new 4K version of the Chromecast, as well as Daydream VR.
