Top 10: Android News Stories – 09/18/16

Lots has happened in the world of Android this past week with a big focus on Samsung and the Galaxy Note 7. Although the past couple of weeks have been filled with news about Samsung recalling the phone, it wasn’t until the last few days that Samsung issued a joint statement with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on a formal recall of the device in the U.S., with a total of 92 reports that either involved burns or property damage. In addition to the formal recall, the FAA also officially banned passengers from charging or powering on their Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices on flights, following requests that they not do so the week prior.

Of course, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 recall was not the only thing to happen this past week, as a possible image leak and renders have surfaced regarding the upcoming Google Pixel XL smartphone. Renders of the device had actually popped up on more than one occasion with the most recent renders surfacing yesterday, although these are just render mockups that have been created based on the leaked knowledge of the phone’s design, and not actual press renders. The Pixel Launcher was made available for download this past week, and it was discovered that there are no new Android Wear smartwatches from LG, Huawei, or Moto coming in 2016.
