In the world of Android, there is always something interesting happening whether it’s revolving around a new application or a slew of new device hardware. While there was no new hardware launched this past week, it was confirmed that Google will be holding an event on October 4th where it’s expected that they’ll be launching a handful of new products. It’s largely thought that they’ll be announcing the Pixel and Pixel XL at this event, the two latest smartphones to come from the company, which also leaked out in front and back images this past week. In addition to this, a new rumor this past week also suggests that Google will be announcing a new Chromecast at the event, called the Chromecast Ultra, which is likely to include support for 4K and HDR content. Alongside the Chromecast Ultra unveiling, Google is thought to be launching the Google Home smart speaker as well, with the Chromecast Ultra and the Google Home speaker costing $69, and $129 respectively.
Aside from all of this hardware, Google was rumored to be announcing a new Wi-Fi router on October 4th as well. The router will simply be called Google Wi-Fi and is said to be a mesh technology that will allow consumers to fill the weak signal spots in the home for a stronger, more reliable Wi-Fi network. This is also rumored to cost the same amount as the Google Home speaker with a price of $129, although it’s also said that this will be the starting price for a single base unit, as Google Wi-Fi will include modular bases that can have multiple pieces added on and linked together depending on how many consumers need.
