Google has an event planned for October 4 and while it has yet to be confirmed by Google of what exactly the company will be showcasing, the rumor mill has been in full swing over the last couple of months with clear suggestions that a number of products will be on show at the event. The headline devices are expected to be two new smartphones which will bear the Pixel moniker. Although, they will be accompanied by a range of other devices like the company’s debut Daydream VR headset, a new 4K-enabled Chromecast and more.
However, now it is starting to look as though Google might have one or two products planned that the market is largely not expected. One of them being a new Wi-Fi router which is currently being dubbed ‘Google Wifi’. The information on this is coming from a fresh report out of Android Police who has been provided with the details from a ‘reliable source’. That said, besides the actual confirmation that the product exits, the details are a little limited.
What is being said to be known about Google Wifi is that it will cost $129 at launch. It is also being said that the router will be able to offer an extended range and will most likely come with smart features. Although, what those features are is debatable, but the assumption being made is that it will act in a similar way to Google’s other router solution, OnHub. There is also the suggestion being made that Google Wifi will be able to link together more than one access point to form a larger wireless network. In terms of size, this could be one of the bigger selling points as it is being suggested that Google Wifi will be somewhat similar in size to Amazon’s Echo Dot and will be white in color.
As mentioned, at the moment most of this information is unconfirmed in a formal capacity. So there is the chance that Google Wifi will not be announced at the event or doesn’t even exist. However, with the event coming and what seems to be a range of products now expected to be debuted by the company on the day, there is every reason to think that a new Google Wifi router could also be announced.
