When Lenovo announced the Moto Z at Lenovo Tech World back in June, they noted that the device would be exclusive to Verizon and then heading elsewhere in September. Well that time has come. The Moto Z is now up for pre-order over on Amazon, and it’s slated shipping date is October 2nd. It’s priced the same as Verizon’s variant, which is $699. Pretty pricey for a smartphone, but that does line up with other flagship smartphones these days. Amazon is also throwing in $200 off of the Hasselblad True Zoom Camera Moto Mod, for those that order the Moto Z. Which makes the camera mod just $99. That’s a pretty great deal, even if you weren’t planning on picking it up, it’ll make you want to grab it.
The Moto Z isn’t the true flagship in Lenovo’s lineup this year. That’s the Moto Z Force, and that is due to the shatterproof display, and the much larger battery (3500mAh vs 2600mAh in the Moto Z). Unfortunately, the Moto Z Force is staying a Verizon exclusive, it’s not even launching elsewhere in the world. That leaves the Moto Z for the rest of us that want a Moto Mod compatible smartphone. The Moto Z does have a great looking 5.5-inch 2560×1440 resolution AMOLED display, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor. That is paired with 4GB of RAM and this particular model is 64GB of storage with a micro SD card slot. There’s a 2600mAh battery inside, which reviewers have said last quite a long time, despite what many may think. It does support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0, which allows you to charge the Moto Z pretty quickly.
Now, this is a typical GSM unlocked smartphone. What that means is that there is no CDMA support available here. So it’ll work with AT&T and T-Mobile. But those on Sprint or US Cellular are out of luck. If you are on Verizon and don’t want to sign up for their Verizon EDGE installment program, you’ll need to still buy it outright from them, if you want to use it on Verizon. Amazon does have a number of Moto Mods available as well, which you can grab from the links below.
