Alexa has steadily gotten better and better, ever since Amazon unveiled the personal assistant last year. Adding more and more skills to Alexa, and now, Blink is the latest. For those of you that own Blink’s Security Cameras, you’ll now be able to control them with your voice thanks to Alexa. This may not seem like a big deal, since these are security cameras, and you won’t be doing much with them anyways. But it does make it easier to arm or disarm the system, when you can use your voice to have Alexa do it, versus having to pop open the app and do it yourself.
That’s not all that Alexa can do though, it can also tell you the current system status for your Blink Security Cameras, as well as the last time and location of the last recorded clip. So you can see when there was last any movement in your home, or office, or wherever you have these security cameras placed. Which alone makes this update to work with Alexa a pretty important feature. In order to use it, you will need a device that has Alexa, something like the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Amazon Tap, Amazon’s Fire HD 8 or even the refreshed Fire TV Stick which also has Alexa built-in. Blink also touts in their press release announcing Alexa compatibility, that their wire-free video home security and monitoring systems start at just $99. Which puts them a good bit cheaper than other competitors like Logitech’s Circle and the Nest Cam, both of which start at $199 per camera. Blink also provides users with free cloud storage, so that you can watch what’s happening from anywhere in the world. Additionally, their cameras provide crystal-clear HD video their app that is available for both Android and iOS. To get started with Blink and Alexa, all you need to do is add the skill to Alexa through the Android or iOS app that Amazon has made for Alexa.
