Few can argue that Tinder isn’t one of the most popular dating apps ever created but it still has to deal with the same problems every other dating app has. One of the most common issues developers face when creating a dating service is that of profitability. Well, balancing user growth and profitability, that is. As it turns out, developers of dating apps find that growing a user base is much easier when you’re targeting younger people but younger people tend to spend way less than customers over 30. They statistically earn way less so that’s not a huge surprise but it still poses an interesting problem for dating apps. Sure, most services would prefer to have more users but their main goal is making money, not just providing a completely free service to an increasing number of people. As Tinder isn’t an app that’s heavily packed with ads, its primary way of making money is by selling premium features like Tinder Plus.
Well, the company just made its Plus subscription a bit more attractive while also introducing a completely new feature and monetization method. It’s called Tinder Boost and like its name suggests, it boosts your profile so that it appears to more users. More specifically, Boost increases your profile views by up to 10 times. The exact amount depends on the activity of other Tinder users in your vicinity as Boost only lasts for exactly 30 minutes. In other words, it’s probably wiser to use it when people are more likely to be trying to find their soulmate online, so avoid working hours. Tinder Plus subscribers get one free Boost per week but if money isn’t an issue, you can also purchase individual Boosts whenever you want.
The feature is currently rolling out worldwide so make sure to update Tinder by tomorrow in order to take advantage of it. If you’re paying for a Tinder Plus subscription or have purchased an individual Boost, note that you can only activate it while swiping your potential matches. Not surprisingly, the pricing of this feature varies depending on your territory, just like the pricing of the original Tinder Plus subscription does.
