The Fitbit Flex 2 was announced alongside the Fitbit Charge 2 back in the summer. The Charge 2 has been available for quite some time, but only recently did the Flex 2 begin shipping out to users. The Flex 2 is the successor to the widely popular Fitbit Flex. It’s a bit better looking fitness tracker, and carries a price tag of $99. That’s $30 lower than the Fitbit Alta and $50 lower than the Fitbit Charge 2. The Flex 2 will track all of the things you’d expect it to, including your calories that you’ve burned as well as taken in, your activity for the day – this includes things like running, walking, biking, workouts and more – as well as your sleep activity.
What’s new with the Flex 2 is that it is now waterproof. Which means you can take it into the pool and swim with it on. Now it won’t track your swimming, yet, but it is nice that it is now waterproof. Additionally, it can be worn at the beach, in the shower and so forth. With SmartTrack, the Fitbit Flex 2 can also automatically track your workouts. This is a feature that has been available on other Fitbit wearables, including the original Flex. This way you can just start running on the treadmill and the Flex 2 will automatically detect that you are working out and record it. Fitbit also brings their reminders to move to the Flex 2. What this basically means is that it wants you to move 250 steps every hour. Which is about two and a half minutes of walking, so that’s pretty easy to do each hour. These of course are customizable and you can turn it off if you wish not to use it.
One of the reasons that the original Flex was so popular was due to its size, but also the fact that you can swap out the band for something else. And that’s still the case here. Instead of just swapping out the strap like you can on the Fitbit Alta, Charge 2 and Blaze, you can actually swap out the entire band.
