Google has just filed a trademark application for a “G Pixel Phone” at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), The Trademark Ninja reports. The filing was submitted in English and German this Monday, mere 24 hours prior to the upcoming Google hardware event during which the two new Pixel phones are expected to be officially announced. EUIPO is currently in the process of reviewing the application but in this case, that’s likely just a formality. The trademark application was submitted by Google’s München-based representatives over at Grünecker Patent. In addition to the name of the device, the listing posted at EUIPO’s website also reveals the official logo of both the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL. For the uninitiated, Pixel is the new name for the Nexus program, a collaboration between Google and Android OEMs designed to deliver devices offering the stock Android experience. A lot of information about the upcoming two Pixel devices has already been leaked online but nothing is really set in stone at the moment as Google has yet to confirm anything. Nonetheless, it’s been heavily rumored that the upcoming two Pixel phones will be manufactured by the Taiwanese tech giant HTC. Pixel will reportedly boast a 5-inch screen while the Pixel XL will ship with a 5.5-inch one. Most reports suggest that these devices won’t exactly be cheap as they’ll start at $649 which is rumored to be the price tag of a 32GB version of Pixel.
The system-on-chip that will fuel the upcoming Pixel phones is currently one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the Nexus successors as we’ve heard conflicting reports about this piece of internal hardware in the last few weeks. Namely, numerous sources claim that Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL will be powered by the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 while other reports mention the slightly more powerful Snapdragon 821. On the other hand, most insiders agree that the two flagships will launch with 4GB of RAM and a significant number of them claims that Google will use Pixel and Pixel XL to debut Android 7.1 Nougat.
