Google's Allo Gets Fun 'Stranger Things' Tie-Ins

Google’s Allo has been either a love it or hate it situation for what seems like most of the users that have given it a shot. Whether or not it has lived up to your expectations, Google is determined to make it popular and has taken its first steps to introduce a partnership that may actually help to get users engaged with the app a little bit more. The partnership is with Netflix, and what it brings is a tie-in with the hit 80’s nostalgia show Stranger Things.

If you already use Allo on a consistent basis, then there is a chance that you have already seen the new Stranger Things sticker pack which you can download for free within the application. Inside, you’ll find a collection of different stickers ranging from a picture of an Eggo Waffle to faces (with corresponding messages of, of course) of some of the show’s main characters. Yes, including Barb. For fans of the show, the sticker pack likely would have been enough to make things a little more exciting, but Google didn’t stop with just a set of stickers that you can attach to messages. They’re actually using Allo to put on a scavenger hunt in New York City that takes on a Stranger Things theme.

Granted, this second bit is a little unfortunate as anyone outside of the area can’t participate unless they go to NYC, but it’s still a cool thing for them to do and should get users who are able to interact with the scavenger hunt to check the app out more, if they haven’t already. If you happen to be in the New York City area and want to give the scavenger hunt a go, you can kick it off by heading to the starting point. To find where the first location is, you simply ask Google Assistant in Allo “where is Barb?” and you’ll get a response with where you need to go. This will be followed up by a series of other clues upon completing each step and can end up leading to some real world prizes, which is perhaps the main reason to give this a shot if you think you can complete the scavenger hunt before others. Reported prizes include things like a BMX bike, a Panasonic boombox, and a Pentax Camera if you need some incentive
