Google's Pixel Has Great Video Stabilization Even With EIS

Google announced its latest Pixel phones less than a week ago, and it comes in two variants, the Pixel and the Pixel XL. Both devices pack essentially the same specs, save for the screen size, resolution and battery capacity. The Pixel phones come with the best cameras in its class, as least that is what DxOMark says, having given both devices a score of 89 in its comprehensive camera test. While the Pixel only comes with EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) and not OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) which most flagship smartphones come with nowadays, the device takes pretty amazing stills and videos, even at 4K resolution.

To see how well Google has optimized the EIS for its Pixel smartphones, a Reddit user whose real name is Matthew Glass, has decided to get both variants and shoot a few videos to showcase the results to the public. While he posted a couple of videos on YouTube, shot with the Pixel smartphones, the videos have been taken down. Fortunately, other users managed to get a hold of the videos and they have been uploaded on a different video viewing platform, Vimeo. A side-by-side comparison between the Nexus 6P and Pixel XL has also been uploaded, and from watching the video, you can tell that the Pixel XL blows the Nexus 6P out of the water in terms of stabilization. The Nexus 6P also comes with EIS and lacks OIS. Matthew Glass also shot a video on his Pixel XL and the stabilization looks pretty great, and it is safe to say that Google did a great job with its EIS software enhancement this time round.

Do take note that while the cameras of the Nexus 6P and Pixel XL can support videos up to 4K resolution, the quality of the videos which have been uploaded is below average as the process of downloading them from YouTube, and then re-uploading to Vimeo, has taken a toll on the quality. The original videos were uploaded in 1080p resolution on YouTube, but were shot in 4K resolution. If you would like to view the videos, both videos will be available below for your viewing pleasure.
