We have seen many rumours of a new, unreleased HTC device, the HTC Bolt, including how the device may be based around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, how it may or may not have a headphone socket, and notable leaker Evan Blass has revealed that the new HTC handset will be known worldwide as the “HTC 10 evo.” The device may only be known as the HTC Bolt on the American carrier, Sprint, which may or may not have an exclusive on the device for a period of weeks or months.
If HTC is using the “evo” name, this harks back to the 2010 HTC Evo 4G and the 2011 HTC Evo 3D devices. The Evo as originally released was, at the time, notable for using a large display screen at 4.3-inch across the diagonal and running Android 2.1 Eclair on a 1.0 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 (“Scorpion”) chipset. The device has a respectable specification for the year, combining the powerful chipset with 512 MB of RAM, an 8MP rear camera, a 1.3MP front facing camera, a removable 1,500 mAh battery and CDMA / EVDO only network compatibility: the device does not work on a GSM network. Sprint and HTC ultimately updated the device to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The later HTC Evo 3D uses a more powerful, dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 chipset, has 1 GB of RAM, dual rear cameras with an ability to take stereoscopic photographs. There’s a 1,730 mAh replaceable battery and the device was released running Android 2.3 Gingerbread but may be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. However, the Evo E3’s key feature is the qHD 4.3-inch stereoscopic display screen.
From the leaks and rumours of the HTC Bolt or HTC 10 evo, the new device may well simply be trading on the name rather than introducing any new features to the market. Currently, we believe the device will be based around a 5.5-inch 1080p display and will ship with 3 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage plus a MicroSD card, a fingerprint sensor mounted on the front, a USB Type-C port and will be run Android 7.0 Nougat. We’ve seen rumours that the HTC Bolt will be based around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset. The renders we’ve seen of the HTC 10 evo make it look similar to the existing HTC 10 flagship device although it is a less powerful device.
