Taiwanese tech company, ASUS, is apparently all set to launch a new convertible Chromebook if all the rumors and leaks over the past few weeks are anything to go by. The device, which comes with model number C302CA, has already been spotted a number of times online. While an FCC filing now gives us a bunch of real-life images of the upcoming ASUS Chromebook, listings by a bunch of online retailers in Europe have also revealed some concrete info about its hardware specs. As per the listing by a Dutch online retailer, the device will be available for purchase from November 1st at a price of about 800 Euros. Putting all the info together from various sources, the device seems to be a fairly high-spec’d Chromebook that the Taiwanese manufacturer will likely make official over the coming weeks.
The ASUS Chromebook C302CA will feature a 12.5-inch IPS display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The device will be powered by an Intel Core m3-6Y30 (Skylake) processor and have 8GB of RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. From the photographs posted on FCC’s website, we can see a microSD card reader, two USB Type-C ports and a 3.5mm audio jack. One of the images also seems to indicate the presence of a stylus port. The upcoming device will also come with an Aluminum body just like the first-gen Chromebook Flip. The device is also expected to feature a backlit keyboard and a 360-degree hinge. That last little detail is the reason why sections of the online tech media now seem to believe that the upcoming device will be the Chromebook Flip 2.0.
The first-generation ASUS Chromebook Flip was one of the very first convertible Chromebooks from a mainstream manufacturer, and was fairly well-received by Chromebook enthusiasts worldwide. That particular device, however, came with just a 10-inch display panel, which had a much lower resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The device had just the 4GB of RAM and was powered by a Rockchip RK3288 processor, all of which allowed ASUS to price it at around the $249 mark. While this particular model will come with considerably beefed-up hardware, it is also expected to cost significantly more with most retailers asking for upwards of 800 Euros including taxes.
