Back in June, Lenovo announced the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. Both of which launched in July on Verizon, exclusively. The Moto Z was only going to be a limited time exclusive to Verizon, while the Moto Z Force would be exclusive to the US and to Verizon. The Moto Z was slated to launch in September, however it is just now becoming available in October. The unlocked Moto Z has been available for pre-order for quite some time, but now it is actually shipping. So if you’ve been waiting on getting your Moto Z, now’s the time to grab it.
The Lenovo Moto Z is selling for $699 unlocked, which is a pretty steep price especially for Moto’s smartphones. The Moto Z is unlocked and will work on T-Mobile and AT&T here in the US, unfortunately it won’t work with Verizon or Sprint. This means that Sprint customers are just out of luck, and Verizon customers will need to buy the “DROID” version from Verizon. The Moto Z does sport a 5.5-inch 2560×1440 resolution AMOLED display, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor along with 4GB of RAM. There’s 64GB of storage included, and that is supplemented by a micro SD card slot that can handle up to 256GB of additional storage, and it does support adoptable storage. There’s a 13-megapixel camera around back along with a 5-megapixel camera on the front. This is all powered by a 2600mAh battery.
Now that battery may seem small, and that’s where these Moto Mods come into play. All of the Moto Mods are also available on Amazon right now and are shipping. The one that will most likely be the most popular is Incipio’s offGRID battery backup. Which adds 2200mAh of power to the Moto Z, making it a bit thicker, but also having much better battery life. Of course, the JBL SoundBoost is on sale, as well as the new Hasselblad Camera mod and the Pico Projector. All of these slap onto the back of the Moto Z and just work. There’s no need to reboot your phone when you put one of these on. Which is a great thing, especially for those that are actually going to use these Moto Mods often.
