The whole fiasco which has plagued the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, hasn’t really settled well with Samsung’s customers. This is due to the fact that many Galaxy Note 7 users had to visit their respective point of purchase multiple times, first to obtain a replacement unit during the first recall, and then to return the aforementioned replacement unit to obtain a refund when the smartphone was discontinued. Some Galaxy Note 7 users have already filed lawsuits against the South Korean company because they say that they were left without a smartphone for weeks during the first recall, and still incurred monthly carrier charges during that time, which of course, they had to pay for. The plaintiffs are now seeking compensation from the firm.
Now, South Korean media outlets are reporting that Samsung has a new compensation program for its Galaxy Note 7 customers in the works. It is reported that Samsung is considering providing its Galaxy Note 7 customers with cash discounts for their future purchase of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 or the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The industry source which is mentioned in the report didn’t state which handset the electronics manufacturer will decide to offer the discount for. At the moment, it is unclear how much the discount will be and that is if the company goes through with the new compensation program. Samsung has yet to officially confirm this reported compensation program.
However, the company is already offering incentives to Galaxy Note 7 users in many markets it sold the device in. In South Korea, the company is offering a complimentary voucher worth 30,000 won ($26) to Galaxy Note 7 users who return their device. The company is also offering a 70,000 won ($62) credit on their monthly carrier charges, but that is if users opt to replace their Galaxy Note 7 unit with a different Samsung smartphone. So far, only 10 percent of some 500,000 Galaxy Note 7 users in South Korea have returned their device for a refund or exchange. Many Galaxy Note 7 owners are reluctant to return their device as there are few other options in the market which offer similar functionality to the Galaxy Note 7, but Samsung is hoping to expedite the return process with its cash benefits.
