With the release of the Google Pixel and Pixel XL (if you missed it, don’t forget to check out our full review), it’s only natural that various aspects of these two new devices will be compared to the same attributes and features on other high-end flagships. Such is the case with the Google Pixel and the new iPhone 7 Plus, which was tested for speed by YouTuber SuperSaf TV. While there does seem to be a general speed test that covers a range of different things to display how quickly each phone operates while attempting to complete the same tasks, there is also a video that is dedicated to how quickly the fingerprint sensor works on each device.
Based on the video, the Google Pixel has a faster fingerprint sensor than that of the iPhone 7, although to be fair it is worth noting that this is only a very minor increase in speed. The video goes through unlocking the device with the fingerprint sensor straight from a sleeping display as well as from the lock screen, and the Google Pixel wins out in this test both times. To make sure that the animations that occur on both devices weren’t causing too much of a difference, these animations were reduced or disabled as much as possible on both devices, and once again the Google Pixel ends up being faster at unlocking with the fingerprint sensor in both situations, although the iPhone 7 was a bit faster than it was before reducing the animations that occur following an unlock.
When it comes to the regular speed test which goes through a number of things, it would seem that the Google Pixel ends up being faster in a number of key areas. Having said that, the iPhone 7 Plus does actually end up being faster in a fair amount of areas as well, such as opening the browser, as well as loading an article, and opening up various games while also loading them fully, including Angry Birds 2, Temple Run 2, and Subway Surfers. It should also be noted that the apps that were opened during these tests were all left running in the background. When it comes down to it, both phones are rather quick, and the difference in speed likely won’t make much of a difference to most users, but the videos are interesting to watch.
