Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones officially launch tomorrow, although the phones were announced back on October 4th and have been available for pre-order since then. With the phones just now starting to make it to the doorsteps of consumers who purchased them, Google is quick to get devices updated as they have just now posted the Factory Images and OTA Images for both phones, and it hasn’t even been a week since phones have been shipping to customers. While there’s no way to know whether or not all software updates will be this fast or close to it, Google has always been quick about sending software updates to their devices, and if this set of flashable images is any indication of the future, then Pixel and Pixel XL owners are looking forward to some extremely quick turnaround on new software.
With that said, you can grab the Factory Images or the OTA Images for your respective phones from the buttons below, although it is worth noting that flashing these images is only recommended if you’re aware of the process and how to implement this software. If that isn’t the case then it might be better to simply wait for the software to hit your phone over-the-air, which shouldn’t be too far off in the future.
More than just indicating the possibility of getting wicked fast updates for future versions of the software, the arrival of Factory and OTA images for the Pixel and Pixel XL also points out that these two devices will actually get images for people to flash, which was not exactly made clear prior to now. For those that are already planning on either rooting their phones or just sidestepping OTA updates, having these at your disposal will likely be a huge boon and make for even faster turnarounds for software builds, or for flashing back to stock software if it’s ever needed. At the current time, Google doesn’t seem to have posted a changelog for these software versions, but seeing as how both the Pixel and Pixel XL are already running on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, there may not be much in the way new and exciting features. Nevertheless, you’re able to flash either image now if you feel so inclined.
