The BlackBerry DTEK60 may not be officially announced but thanks to recent leaks, we already know everything about its hardware specifications and design. In addition to that, the device just became available for pre-order at the Canadian online retailer NCIX. It’s priced at $700 CAD ($535 USD) and is advertised with the same image which leaked online just yesterday. NCIX estimates that the BlackBerry DTEK60 is hitting the market in Canada next Tuesday, October 11th, but note that the said date has yet to be confirmed.
BlackBerry’s DTEK60 will allegedly boast a 5.5-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display, fueled by the Snapdragon 820 CPU, Adreno 530 GPU, and 4GB of RAM. The device has 32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a 21-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front one. All of that goodness is powered by a 3,000mAh non-removable battery which is charged via a USB Type-C port. Regarding extra features, the smartphone has been reported to launch with a built-in fingerprint sensor and support for gesture-based navigation. As things stand right now, the BlackBerry DTEK60 is likely going to be a rebranded version of the TCL 950. For the uninitiated, the BlackBerry DTEK50 which was released earlier this year was a rebranded Alcatel Idol 4 which was also manufactured by the Alcatel-owned TCL. In addition to that, BlackBerry has recently announced the closure of its internal hardware division, adding that it plans to outsource future smartphone-related research and development to other parties. In other words, it’s unlikely that the DTEK60 was fully designed and manufactured by the Ontario-based tech giant.
Unfortunately, the aforementioned pre-order listing doesn’t go into any details regarding specifications of the latest BlackBerry smartphone so there’s still no way to confirm all of the recently leaked information about the device. In addition to that, none of the leaks made any mention of the Android OS version that will come pre-installed with the DTEK60 so we’re still in the dark regarding certain details about this device. However, if NCIX’s release date estimation is correct and the upcoming phone is really hitting the Canadian market next week, BlackBerry will hopefully make an official announcement soon.
