After absolutely taking over the world this summer, the Pokemon GO craze has seemingly died down a bit in recent months. While colder weather certainly had something to do with that fact, a quick look at social networks and content aggregators like Reddit quickly reveals that a portion of Pokemon GO user base has been somewhat disappointed with the rate and quality of new features which Niantic Labs implemented since introducing its hit mobile game in July. That isn’t to say Pokemon GO is doing badly these days. Despite experiencing a decline in active users for two months in a row, the augmented reality title still managed to become the fastest-growing game ever as it hit $600 million in revenue in only three months.
In addition to that, Niantic has been listening to its user base and is slowly but steadily adding new features to the game. Speaking of which, one interesting functionality has just been data mined by a few enthusiastic Pokemon GO players over at Pokemon GO Hub. To be more specific, newly mined code suggests that the San Francisco-based studio is currently developing a daily quest system. Data miners who examined the latest version of the app claim that Pokemon GO will soon support three types of daily quests. Two of them have already been uncovered and are called “First PokeStop of the Day” and “First Catch of the Day” while the third one has yet to be identified. Still, the known quests seem pretty self-explanatory – Pokemon GO will soon begin rewarding players for logging into the game and visiting at least one PokeStop, as well as catching at least one pocket monster per day. Not surprisingly, the mined code also suggests a Streak mechanic which will net you larger rewards for completing daily quests in succession.
Pokemon GO Hub reports that most of the required code is already present in the Pokemon GO version 0.43.3 which is already available for download from the Play Store. In other words, Niantic can theoretically turn on this feature without updating the game. It remains to be seen whether that happens or not, but it currently doesn’t seem likely seeing how the studio has so far been rather transparent with upcoming features and has usually announced them at least a week in advance. For now, all we can do is wait and enjoy the upcoming Pokemon GO Halloween event which is scheduled to start tomorrow.
