It appears as though the Galaxy Note 7 disaster is finally coming to a close, with Samsung now entering their second recall on the Galaxy Note 7, working with the CPSC to recall any and all Galaxy Note 7s sold in the United States. The Galaxy Note 7 has now been officially discontinued, but Samsung is hoping that, despite the inconvenience and risk to customers’ health, that they will be willing to stay with the Samsung brand. As we covered earlier in South Korea, Samsung is now offering incentives to US Customers.
For Galaxy Note 7 customers in the United States that are having to replace what’s possibly their second unit, Samsung is offering them $100 towards a Galaxy S7 Edge. Now, if these users were looking to jump ship – perhaps understandably – they’ll only be given $25 towards a device from say, HTC, LG or even Apple. This seems pretty generous of Samsung, but if we consider that users need to jump through a number of hoops to return the device, such as pack it in a fireproof box to send it via ground, and then wait for it to get back to Samsung before they get this $100 towards something else from Samsung, and it doesn’t start to sound that good of a deal, really. Of course, if users do want a full refund, Samsung is more than happy to oblige, which would give customers a lot of money to play with to spend on an alternative. If the Galaxy S7 Edge or even something older from Samsung is what they’re after, the full price of a Galaxy Note 7 will give them a lot of spare cash after purchasing one at street price or even used.
This whole thing has not helped Samsung one bit, and the firm will no doubt be looking to bury this, and perhaps the whole Galaxy Note brand, and move on entirely. For customers however, they purchased a phone many will have been looking forward to for most of the year, and now they’ve not ended up with that device. Many of these customers will surely be disappointed with Samsung, but 2017 is another year, and the Korean firm will be looking to improve and polish their brand back up.
