If you’re an owner a 3G/4G model of the Samsung Gear S2 or a Galaxy Gear S2 Classic then there is some good news for you as now you can start using your Gear S2 smartwatch to pay for your purchases in the US. A new software update is rolling out for the Samsung Gear Manager app which brings Samsung Pay beta support for the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic 3G/4G model. Read on.
Though the Galaxy S2 regular version has already been updated with Samsung Pay beta feature two months ago, it’s only now that the Gear S2 & Gear S2 Classic 3G/4G variants are getting this functionality. Multiple owners of the Gear S2 are now reporting that they are now receiving update prompts on their smartphones to update Gear Manager app to get Samsung Pay beta for the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic. To get Samsung Pay beta working on your Gear S2 smartwatch, you will need to update your Samsung Gear Manager app on your smartphone. For this, just open up the Samsung Gear Manager app on your device and from the menu select, “Update” once the app is updated, re-open the app and tap “Samsung Pay beta” option, then follow the next steps to configure Samsung Pay beta for your smartwatch; you will need to enter your banking and debit/credit cards details if you haven’t already added. Once done, turn on your Gear S2 smartwatch and hold the back key until you see a message; Start using Samsung Pay now. That’s it, now you can start using your Gear S2 at supported shops and outlets across the US to pay for your purchases.
Do keep in mind that you will only be able to pay via your Gear S2 smartwatch at places which have NFC readers installed as Galaxy Gear S2 doesn’t feature built-in magnetic strip – which mimics as debit/credit card and only available in select Galaxy smartphones. But given that now most of the stores have upgraded with NFC readers in the US, it shouldn’t be an issue at all. Making payments with the Galaxy S2 smartwatch is simple, all you have to is to hold your Gear S2 against the NFC reader for a few seconds you’re done. It’s that simple.
