Ever since it was announced, Samsung Pay has been thought of something as a gimmick, a way for Samsung to compete with Apple and yet another way for them to snub Google. That’s no longer the case though, as Samsung Pay continues to prove popular as well as roll out to more countries all over the world, and support more banks here at home. As we’ve seen with Android Pay’s launch in the United States, more and more banks as well as card issuers are steadily becoming available for these mobile payments systems and the USAA is another of them, not headed to Samsung Pay.
Those of you who bank with USAA will no doubt be familiar with their offerings, and while they offer all kinds of different cards and accounts on offer, only a few cards appear to be working with Samsung Pay right now. Thew news comes not from Samsung, but SamMobile via a tip and the below screenshots show what appears to be a standard USAA Debit card working within the Samsung Pay app. It appears as though only USAA Visa cards will be supported at this point, but there are always more and more cards being added to the service, and the best way to find out whether or not your card is accepted, is to just give it a try. Curious Samsung users that don’t already have Samsung Pay on their phone – which only works with the Galaxy S6 series, the Galaxy S7 series, the Galaxy Note 5 and if you still have one, the Galaxy Note 7 – can hit the Play Store button below to get the app installed on their phone.
Samsung Pay is steadily expanding and they recently added support for Capital One cards as well as teaming up with Citibank in Singapore, one of the larger international locations that Samsung Pay is available in. For those across the pond in the UK, Samsung Pay still doesn’t appear to be anywhere near to launching and with the recent Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, it’s likely that Samsung has more pressing matters on their hands. It is, however, good to see that the Samsung Pay team is still working hard to improve what has become a nice feature for Samsung fans.
