Popular music recognition service Shazam has just announced the immediate launch of Shazam Lite, a streamlined version of its main app primarily made for users in developing countries which can’t always count on high-speed data reception. The app takes less than 1MB on your device and has been designed to require as little data as possible. Regardless of that, Shazam claims that this version of the app is still as functional as the main one and can identify songs just as efficiently. In fact, one could argue that the app is even more convenient than the regular one given how it supports offline music recognition and will be able to run on devices running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Naturally, data and internal storage aren’t the only things Shazam Lite is conservative with as the app also requires very little hardware resources.
In addition to song recognition and search history, this mobile creation also boasts all other major Shazam features we grew to love. More specifically, users are able to access music videos, song lyrics, and lists of related songs, as well as streaming services and online shops offering the identified track with just a single tap. Sharing songs with friends over social networks and communications apps is also just as easy. In other words, Shazam may have gotten smaller, but it’s still just as convenient.
The company will certainly be hoping to grow its user base with Shazam Lite given how it’s targeting a lot of large, emerging markets. Namely, the app will hit the Google Play Store in India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, and Nigeria by the end of the day. In addition to that, Shazam Lite will also make its way to Venezuela in the near future, translated to Spanish. In a short press release, Shazam asserted that this is the best music recognition app designed for 2G networks and areas with limited Internet connectivity on the market, adding that plenty of more features are in the works. If you happen to be located in one of the aforementioned countries, try searching for Shazam Lite on the Play Store as the rollout has officially started several hours ago and the app may already be available for download.
