If you’ve been eyeballing the BlackBerry DTEK60, BlackBerry’s latest phone which is due for launch later this year, pre-orders are now reported to be live through B&H Photo for a cost of $500. While this is a BlackBerry device, it’s not actually manufactured by BlackBerry like the Priv, rather the BlackBerry brand and software was licensed out to TCL who also made the DTEK50 device that launched a little earlier this year. At the moment there is no word on when other retailers will have pre-orders ready for the BlackBerry DTEK60. Sites like Amazon are expected to have the phone for sale, as the DTEK50 is available through the online merchant, but there are no listings on the site for the new phone currently.
BlackBerry officially revealed the DTEK60 earlier this month on October 3rd, and the US pre-orders that are now popping up are following pre-orders for the phone that went live in Canada on the same day as the phone reveal. The DTEK60 is the more powerful successor of the DTEK50, coming equipped with a Snapdragon 820 processor inside which puts it towards the top as far as processing power goes in comparison with other smartphones. It also comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space, but if 32GB is not enough it will also support expandable storage via a microSD card for those that have one or want to use one.
The DTEK60 is sporting a 5.5-inch Quad HD display so the screen size and resolution are also on par with other top-end devices, and for connectivity it supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and it has a 3.5mm audio port for using regular headphones, making most of the specs very comparable to other handsets. The major difference is that most other phones which carry these specifications cost more than $500, which makes this device something worth looking into. When it comes to the camera hardware, the BlackBerry DTEK60 is working with a 21MP rear camera which supports 4K video shooting, and an 8MP front camera for selfies and video chat. It stays powered on via a 3,000mAh battery and it runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, and since NFC is present, that means that those who pick up the device will be able to use the integrated fingerprint sensor for authorizing mobile payments in addition to unlocking the device.
