This past week has been interesting one in the world of Android as one of the largest manufacturers of Android devices – Samsung – has officially issued a second recall of their Galaxy Note 7 device after multiple reports of the phones exploding. In addition to the recall, Samsung has stated that they will no longer be producing the device, and although the battery is once again thought to be one of the reasons for the device issues, speculation also suggests that the curved glass screen may have a part to play in the problem with the replacement devices that Samsung had ended up sending out to its retail partners.
This past week also saw the U.S. Department of Transportation place a ban of the Galaxy Note 7 on all flights, meaning that passengers are no longer allowed to have the phone with them while on the plane. A rumor had also surfaced that Samsung may end up putting the Note brand to rest following all of these instances. It wasn’t all about Samsung, though, as Google’s Project Fi service was announced to have Family group plans available moving forward starting at $15 a month. Huawei’s Mate 9 device was also leaked in several images, and the Chromebook previously known as “Kevin” was revealed this past week to be the new Chromebook Pro from Samsung that carries a flip around display as well as a stylus that is called the PEN. Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL also went up for pre-order in India this past week, and all of the apps that would be supported by Google Home as it launches was also listed.
